Content Is King, but, How about a Vote for Knowledge

Want to know how to write great Content?
It really doesn’t matter if you are writing copy for your blog or a website. Search engines search for content. I talk with people everyday about writing content. The long and short of it is most tell me the same thing I cant write. I generally respond by telling them if you can talk, you can write. The problem is most try to write about something they don’t know anything about. Therein lies the real problem.
Most people have knowledge base and would be considered an expert at something. They watch others write and get completely overwhelmed and consequently get stuck, or they turn to others and copy what they write, repackage it and call it their own, when all they really need to do is write about something they know. So they turn to banners and buttons trying to make their sites appealing and glitzy. The truth is, if you have done any measure of web searching and checked out the millions of sites, you already know most have the same buttons, banners and ads. The bottom line is that is not why people come to your site. You may have attracted them in with some fancy text ad or email, but what do they get when they get there? A cash register. Filled with multiple keys and functions designed to relieve them of some of their folding friends usually stored in their wallets. They stay a minute or less and they are off to the next site. Why? Because your site did not have what they were looking for. So what are they looking for? Content. That content has to come from what they perceive to be an expert in their field. How will they determine that? Content. That content has to be formed and conveyed by you, the expert, no matter the subject. You will hear this from me over and over, weaved and stated in many different ways throughout all my posts. People do not sit at their computers with a credit card wedged between their teeth, stopping at various sites looking for something to buy. They come for information. They come for free information. They come for quality information. CONTENT.
So what are you a subject matter expert in? Think about that for a few minutes. I’ll wait……….
So what did you come up with? Realistically only you can answer that question, but we all are experts at something. Billy Graham is likely the best known evangelist of his generation. I once read a book written by Graham. He was asked, how can he speak for hours seemingly without effort or getting boring? He stated he speaks and writes from an overflow of knowledge. He fills his mind to the point of maximum information saturation. He is an expert in his field. You do not have to agree or disagree with his belief system. That is not the point here. However you cannot argue with the results.
I work with a young man who has fished his entire life. His eyes actually get glazed over when he talks about fishing. His pulse quickens. It is like turning on a switch that you cannot turn off. He has a knowledge base from his life experience few can scratch the surface of. Would his fishing knowledge sell? Try a Google search on fishing and see how many pages it returns to you. The market is there. The potential customers are there. So why would he not monetize his knowledge? Because in most people, the fear of loss is a much stronger motivator than the desire for gain. Don’t let this happen to you!
It does not matter what your field of expertise is. You are an expert at something. Focus your writing on that subject. Deliver content, over-deliver content. Be known for something specific. Your words will generate in your potential customer the insatiable desire to possess. Starting to get the picture?Your knowledge will produce content. Your content will produce traffic. That traffic will produce your opportunity to Pre-sell your potential customer. The Pre-sell will produce monetization for your product service or information.
I coached youth sports all my kids’ lives. Over those 15 years I taught baseball, football, basketball, swimming and probably a few I cannot remember right now. I am proud to say I coached kids as 5 year olds that ended of being drafted out of high school to major league teams. I used to hear the same thing over and over form these kids year after year. “Coach I can’t do it” I would pull that youngster aside and say the same thing I’m going to tell all of you who took the time to read this post. “If you say I cant… you never will.”Good writing is born out of a passion for what you know, and you know something about something. Pound those keys and you will be surprised what you come up with.
Perhaps I have given you a sliver of hope that you can do it, but you are still skeptical. I am enclosing this Download to help, and encourage you. It free and there is no obligation,

The beginning of this post asked a question. Want to know how to write great Content? The answer is you write great content by writing great content. Now that you are scratching your head, let me explain. Whatever gifts, talents, skills or knowledge you posses you acquired them by doing. They were developed over time. Writing is no different. Nike may have it right when they say “Just do it” but I prefer Larry the Cable guy’s approach “GIT-R-DONE!”

Great points about quality content. It’s sad to see so many spammy websites full of crappy content written by ghost writers for $5.
But the fact is, that the majority of people are lacking so much of knowledge, that an expert on that field rarely knows how to get rid of the “Curse of knowledge” and explain things in simple terms.
That’s why crappy content still works and earns money. There are too many crappy customers.
