Yankees are Home in October

For the touch more than 3 years I wrote as a Fantasy Correspondent for ESPN. Yep that ESPN. Until now I have resisted the urge to plunge back into sports writing. As I was pondering ideas for my blog it occurred to me that we are now almost half way through October and the New York Yankees are home. Please understand as an avid baseball fan I find myself strangely aroused with the thought of not watching Joe Torre sit in the dugout, as the cameras pan 40-50 shots of his mug staring off in the distance, occasionally picking his nose. George Steinbrenner proved once again that 200+ million dollars won’t buy a championship and that’s good. My excitement could only be heightened if the Boston Red Sox follow suit and quickly exit the playoffs. I don’t hate either team, but I dislike both plenty.

Much will be written about what will happen in the off season. How much will Alex Rodriguez make? Will Torre be fired? Steinbrenner said last weekend that he didn’t think the Yankees would keep Torre if the team failed to advance from its first-round series with Cleveland. New York was eliminated in four games by the Indians, the Yankees’ third straight opening-round exit, but Steinbrenner has been silent on Torre’s fate. Blah, Blah, Blah, but they are at home in 2007, making tee times and not taking up space or air time on my Sony HDTV.
