The Worlds Greatest Natural Resource, WAHM’s

I would like to take some time to honor those mothers who have decided to work from home. The pressures and finances in this world make it difficult for a family to survive on one income. The sacrifices are many.

Twenty-five years ago my first son was born. My wife and I were overwhelmed as most new parents are. We had set a course for our lives that would include hard work and commitment. As the days for our new child’s birth approached we discussed our plans. She would be off work from her administrative assistant job at a poultry distribution facility.
We would carry on with our son in a day care center and all would be right with the world. Then it happened. The moment the nurse laid our 9lb bundle of joy on her chest everything changed.

Little Donnie connected and bonded with his mommy. The next 6 weeks flew by and she was due to go back to work. Needless to say that didn’t last long, a couple of days. She quit her job and her heart would not let that little guy be left with a stranger.

She started answering the phone for my fledgling service business from home. She did anything she could to make money from home. Then one day she answered an ad in the classifieds about being a newspaper carrier. I was flabbergasted to say the least. Delivering newspapers? She took the job and woke up each morning at 2 AM , fed our baby then delivered her papers. She would be home by six and in time for the next feeding. Son # 2 would soon follow and she continued this regimen for the next 6 years. Our sons never saw a day care and while we struggled at times we have no regrets. There is no important job than raising children.

The internet was someone’s dream back then, but she found an alternative to 9-5 and made it work. Our sons are now grown. The oldest worked as a Youth Pastor in Indiana recently and now is in advertising. The youngest is an accountant at a company that arranges financing for small business. I refer to son number # 1 my pride, son #2 my joy.

There seem to be more options today for WAHM’s than there was then. For those of you that are doing it I commend you. For those that are struggling with it, stay the course. It will be worth it. Some days seem dark and that’s to be expected. Do as you would do in the light and keep moving forward.

I read with much interest many WAHM blogs and think back to our days which were the motivation for this post. For those of you still searching for something to make money at home, it is out there. Perhaps one of you would like to try your hand at an online business? Mothers are the some of the most talented people in the world. Each of you possesses knowledge, skills and abilities. The fact is, in my prospecting for new home based business opportunities I find more mothers with dormant talents waiting to me awoken than any other group.

That is real nice of you to write up a tribute to all the wifes and mothers who sacrifice their career to bring up the kids.

I agree it is easier now to make money online for WAHMs and to provide hosting and guidance fom you; it will be invaluable.

Let’s wake all the potential sleeping moguls up.

Wow! What a great post! I really needed to read something like this, especially today. I’m a single mother, and determined to stay at home a with my daughter. I went back to work when she was about 7 weeks old, and quit my job shortly after also. I’ve been home ever since, with a couple of gigs here and there (while my parents watched her). My daughter is now almost 2 and a half, and times are VERY tough. But I’m determined. I feel so strongly that she needs me during these early years.

Thanks again for a wonderful post. I’ll be back to read more. I’m joining your community (and join mine too).
