Get Rich Quick Scams do work…. for the Scammers

Every day, thousands of people turn over a new leaf and decide to start a home-based business. One major downside to this process is the unfortunate abundance of work-at-home scams, cleverly disguised as legitimate home-based business opportunities. You can spend hours on end trying to read reviews on the various “opportunities”. Many of those are scams as well. I have posted before in Easy Money how I fell victim to one of these scams as well. I suppose I should be happy it was not my 37th time. Here are 5 tips to avoid the proliferation and lure of these scams.
Exaggerated Claims
If a work-at-home opportunity tells you that you’ll earn $10,000 in your first month, that you don’t have to sell anything or that you don’t have to do any work, these are danger signs of hype. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Now that is old school logic, I understand that, but it has never been so true as it is with these scams. Remember that there is no such thing as “easy money”
High-pressure sales tactics
A favorite tactic of almost all these outfits. Work at home scams want your money and they want it fast. They do not want you to leave that site with your credit card number. Legitimate companies will want you to investigate and perform your due diligence. Work at home scams are dependent on customers not doing research.
Pyramid Schemes never go away, but you can walk away
I spoke with a gentleman the other day about his business. Ho owned a travel business. We spoke for over an hour. Never once did he suggest booking a trip, telling me about a potential destination or providing any information about how many people were using his service. I offered some advice on creating niche websites about specific destinations he could then promote. He emphatically stated “Don I am not making money on the travel business, I am making money on selling the program. One simple question I ask that quickly stops a sales pitch in its tracks i s,”am I selling a product or a system? A legitimate MLM or network marketing business will provide you with a way to both sell products and build a team of business partners. If it is a system walk away and look elsewhere.
Never reply to Spam
A great number of these scams are offered through e-mail. Fraudulent offers for home-based businesses or work-at-home opportunities almost always arrive as spam. The better it sounds, the less likely that it’s legitimate.
Scammers aren’t planning to deliver anyway, so what does it matter to them what they promise? Delete and move on.
it has been said — if it’s spam, it’s a scam!
The goal of their advertising
The goal of all advertising is to make you believe a companies product or service will make your life better. Scammers push this concept to the limits and beyond. I just clicked on a Google ad for this post , sorry Google. Here are some excerpts.
After four years, $400,000 of market testing, and MILLIONS of dollars in earnings, we have perfected the most powerful, automated, turn-key,marketing system on the planet. Nice lead in don’t you think?
Now comes the slam on you
YOU DECIDE: Continue to struggle and eventually fail by losing money hand over fist… Or plug into the first EVER fully automated, turn-key, sales and marketing system on the planet. You see they want to have you read a paragraph, tempt you with Lotto like income and then make you feel like less than a smart person of you don’t act right now. Work-at-home scams take advantage of ignorance and emotion. Every single one of these advertisers does it the same way, a simple click of your back button on your browser will fix it.
Conclusion
If you want to start a home based business consider starting on your own first. Go find your opportunity. Take all the time you need to investigate a home-based business opportunity, and research. Don’t let it find you. If you have been burned by one of these scams, join the club. I did too.
