Bonds and Blogs on Steroids ?

As a former Fantasy Correspondent for ESPN, I still have a soft spot for sports, all sports. However, baseball will always hold a special place in my heart. I should have had a major league career…but, yeah right, we all just missed didn’t we? Lately blogging for Making Sales Making Money has been keeping me away from the sports world and that is probably a good thing. I can be obsessive compulsive. The Barry Bonds steroids indictment has actually restored a measure of my faith in the “system”.

However it occurred to me how widespread steroid use in blogging could be. I mean just look at some facts. I recently commented on John Chow’s site and checked the box for email updates. Minutes later my mail server was nearly shut down from overuse. How does that happen? It has to be a blogging enhancement supplement, doesn’t it? So I set out to try some other sites.

I watched Shoemoney for a while and comments just kept piling up. One after another. Now I will tell you I haven’t been blogging all that long, but it gives me reason to think something is going one. I remember feeling the same way when Bonds cracked 73 homers a few years ago. Something had to be going on, and for all we know now, it looks that way. Shoe had more comments in 1 hour than my site will have this month. It got to be roids!

So then I was off to Problogger. Darren has a featured section on his site that always gets my attention. The Best of Problogger had 549 comments on the top 10 articles for this month, and it’s only the 16th. Just makes me wonder. Is it real or is it roids? Think about it.

My journey took me to Alexa, yes I know you hate it but it did offer some interesting data. Notice how the three graph lines run almost in a channel, although Problogger looks as though he took a little extra juice on a few days in October. Birds of a feather juice together? Thinking back to my days of tracking stocks I would call these buy and hold. Breakout on the way. For comparison I’m that obscure line in the corner, but I’m not on steroids, don’t even think it! As for the others, draw your own conclusions.
