So When Do You Make Money

I have had this post in draft form in my blog for several weeks now. When do you make money? When do we make money? I receive e-mails most every day about someone wanting to make money in sales with their blog or website, frankly it’s why I created this site and I love it. As a result the outline of this post has changed somewhat. I want to address something that seems to be a common concern, making money is sales.
I have a really short answer to this question, but then, that wouldn’t make for a good post. When I started this site my plan was to make money from an internet site. My own pride and ego convinced myself I could do it and the challenge of doing so provided all the motivation I needed. I have never had trouble in my life making money, when I decided that was what I wanted to do. My plan was simple, but would require work, something I have never been afraid of. My plan would be long range. I wanted to add content and more content. I did not worry about traffic in the early days. I just wanted to pound the keys of my keyboard relentlessly and provide a foundation for where I wanted my home based business to go. My friends and family kind of just stood back and watched as I talked and worked. Perhaps it was their way of showing support, I don’t know, but since day one I have never wavered in my pursuit of my intended goals. I believe in the power of practice, persistence and perseverance. Those 3 components are of paramount importance to a home based business success. I look for those thongs in the people I communicate with daily. Many suggest an idea, a concept that has merit. Most are missing one or more of these components.
Practice
Your success in your home based business venture will rest squarely on how you practice. What do I mean by that? I read books and study people who are successful.
I read a story about a skinny kid in North Carolina who tried out for the basketball team during his sophomore year in high school, but at 5 feet 11 inches he was told he was too short too to play at that level. The following summer, however, he grew four inches and trained rigorously. He practiced, he practiced and practiced some more. He didn’t finish his growing with those 4 inches; he grew up to be Michael Jordan. He developed his craft through practice.
The other day I took a look at some of my early posts. I remember wondering to myself why don’t people comment on them, why don’t people read them. The answer is because they sucked, out loud! I remember sitting down and my keyboard struggling to type out a 300 word article, but I kept at it , kept going , practiced my craft of communicating what was bundled inside my thoughts. Today I have a hard time keeping my post at a 1000 words. The difference? Practice , and that has to come from the deepest part of your own character. Be careful, it resides right next to the lazy person in you. Are you practicing your craft? Practice your craft and when you get tired practice some more.
There is no use whatever trying to help people who do not help themselves. You cannot push anyone up a ladder unless he is willing to climb himself, Andrew Carnegie
Perseverance
There are days when everything you try seems to fail. You just wrote what you consider to be the best article you have ever written, and no one seems to care. You check your site stats, and your fears are confirmed. How do you react? For me it only breeds more determination, but what does it do for you? Do you sit in your own misery wondering what went wrong or do you stay the course? Not everything you try to write will be well received. As I mentioned, my readers don’t seem to respond to short bursts of information or short posts. So when one doesn’t get read, I adjust on the next one. Getting knocked down only provides an opportunity for you to get up. I used to tell a story to people that illustrates my point. When you were a baby learning how to walk, and you fell down, did your parents kick you and scream at you, “you’re an idiot you will never learn to walk! Not likely, what is more likely is you were picked up, dusted off and tried again. One point I want to interject, we all need to be picked up from time to time. Ask Vic Franqui, how he, in his own eloquent way, read me the riot act recently when I was down on myself. The point is you must persevere. You must go on. You must write that next post. How does one go from less than 100 page views to near 1000 in one day? Simple, by staying the course. Your plan and your purpose must always be in view. Real business takes work and requires you not to give up.
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up” Thomas Edison.
Persistence
Now let’s get back to making money in sales. My plan for this site was to create a site to promote the average person whose talents and skills were lying dormant and needed to awoken. I was going to add content and more content as I have said. Along the way I would develop relationships with all that desired to be successful in a home based business. Monetizing the site was at the back end of my plan, but was in my plan. I was fortunate early on and made some money frankly without even trying. The answer to the question the title of this post is this .You make money in sales or on your site when you want to. When you purpose yourself with all your desire to do it , you will do it. I was chatting with Court the other day and told him I had a goal for December of an amount of money that I wanted to make. I don’t believe in reporting how much I make, because that is my business, and I want to keep it that way. Court wished me well and told me “that is a reasonable goal Don”. The truth is I made that goal by the end of that day. How? Persistence in my goal. Making money in sales requires you to accept the fact that you will be told no or no thank you, lots more than yes I want it, Ill take it. I sent out 10 e-mails with propositions that would make me money. I had 8 people tell no thanks and 2 that said yes. I made money. I continued through the month and tripled my goal at this writing. The point is, I went after it. I did not wait for it to come to me, I pursued it with all I have. Have you done that? So many sit back and wait for it to come to them.
I spoke of the young man who desires to enter vocational ministry and we have had an ongoing conversation via email. I told him I thought SBI would be perfect for what he wants to do. I suggested to him that he not buy it, at least until he investigated all his options. I then suggested he sign up as an affiliate. That would provide him with information and the tools to make an informed decision. Will he buy it? Only he can answer that. Could he make money being an affiliate? Of course he could. He desires to make money for his family. He is the family provider. Could anyone make money being an affiliate with SBI. There is no doubt in my mind. You too can, and will make money in your home based business at that point in time when YOU WANT TO.

Great article. It´s a shame that most people don´t realize how much work is involved in creating a online business.
I used to be lazy, but my attitude towards blogging has now changed into creating the best quality of content and even longer than 350 words posts. Eventually I will be able to type out all my thoughts into logical paragraphs as I have been practicing whilst blogging for free. I am really enjoying your posts that I just found.
