Following the Leaders, Reaping the Rewards

It has been six months, give or take a day, since I started this blog. I have learned plenty.
I have made money. I have lost money, but, oh my I have learned. My goal was to establish an online business. I read compulsively, all the how to articles, e-books, and references I could put my hands and eyes on. I learned there are those to be trusted online and those to avoid. I learned there are those who proclaim to be leaders. I also learned the real leaders don’t have to tell people, they just are. If you are like me, you spend a portion of each day searching and reading other blogs. I have found out in the last six months some very important things about blog reading. It can waste time like nothing else, and is it not amazing how many blogs are out there touting this or that product or service? Perhaps, even more amazing, are the numbers of blogs all promoting the same products! I mean who do you listen to? Better yet, who do you ignore? If I have learned one thing in the last six months, it is that there is as much, if not more, garbage out there as there is quality sites and information. I remember in the early days visiting the so called A-Listers blogs and getting out of my chair to check my wallet as I clicked on to another site. Here are few leaders I follow.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

If it’s Not Working at Home, Don’t Export it

Blogger Unleashed takes a lot of heat for pointing out sites that boast of big profits. He is fearless at calling them out. Vic has a no holds barred mentality when it comes to delivering the goods. Some don’t like it, in fact some hate it, which makes him all the more popular. But. take the time to read his content and the site is a wealth of information. Add to that his willingness to coach, teach and mentor.

I once had a college professor who assigned volumes of reading in every class that I sat with him. Frankly it was overwhelming and the time constraints to finish the assignments were unmanageable. He would often tell me. “Don, you should read like you eat fish, take away the meat and leave the bones.” Folks there is much to be leaned from a portion of the meat that Vic provides. I am not about to debate his style or delivery. He is a big boy and can take care of that himself, but give his articles a read and then tell me you didn’t learn something. I guarantee you will. So I’m going to put him in the leader category. Yes, I follow him.

If it is Working at Home, Don’t be afraid to Share it

I frequent Courtney Tuttle’s site for one reason, to learn. There is not another site that I have found that provides as much information about internet marketing. The best part is it is free. Courtney referred to me as a “gifted writer” in his review of my site. Court, thank you, but when I think of gifted writers I think of Skellie @Skelliwag.org. She posts about twice a week and boasts over 3000 readers. I am absolutely mesmerized by her writing style. I find it hard to read one sentence without going to the next. She is the gifted writer. Her site is not monetized, yet she draws a crowd. She has a new site which is monetized, with a few thousand readers there as well. If I have learned anything about blog writing I have to give her some of the credit. Both Court and Skellie are gifted in communication skills and are willing to share. “Skill in the art of communication is crucial to a leader’s success. He can accomplish nothing unless he can communicate effectively.” Yes I follow both.

Looking to the Future

Wendy Piersall owns eMoms at Home. We essentially work the same niche, home based business. Let me say this out loud and in language everyone can understand. I want Making Sales Making Money to evolve into this type of site. Starting with the site layout to the information she provides. She is a leader. She is successful. I subscribe to her RSS and read her page most everyday. Why wouldn’t I? My ambition is to become a resource and a safe haven for aspiring home based business entrepreneurs to gather information. Wendy has that kind of site and I will continue to follow the example she provides.

These are just a few of the leaders I have followed with diligence. There are more. They have a following. Each is unique in their approach, although there is a common thread. ALL have chosen to ignore what the crowd around them is doing. They do business their way.

At this point it would be easy for me to tell you about sites I avoid. .If you have read my articles in the past, you probably know who they are. They say even bad reviews are good for business. I tend to agree, but no review is no review, so Ill skip it.

They say a good article includes a call to action. Here it is. I would like you to join me as we continue to supply information for your home based business. Click on the Eagle below and add your e-Mail address to our RSS subscription list or provide your information to our Newsletter. One more thing, “You cannot be a leader, and ask other people to follow you, unless you know how to follow, too.”

Great post Don. I think that every person should find the leader in their niche and follow them until the end. That is the key to staying inspired and motivated – hoping to become like that leader.

What? I’m not a leader? Ha! Just joking. Seriously.

I read most of the names you pointed out and will have to check the others. I’m glad you didn’t mention he who must not be named. Your articles will guarantee to drop in the SERPS if you do. :-)

RT thanks for the comment, this post was actually inspired by all the junk I see in the blogosphere. Funny thing is , as is my custom I pound out ideas throughout the day , sat down last night at the keyboard and this one just flowed, I remembered this was my anniversary month for 6 months of blogging and thought back to all the garbage I had read in the past. It actually raised my blood pressure a bit, you should see the unedited version, lol

    Hi Don,

I love Wendy’s blog too, and I agree with you that there is a lot to sift through out there in the blogsphere. When you find the unique, valuable sites though (Courtney’s is another one, you are spot on there!), you take note and keep on reading.

I’ve heard of Skellie but never read her blog so I’ll check it out, thanks for the recommendation!

    Don,

I too spend more time than I should reading other blogs and not spending enough time on developing all my niche sites.

Thanks to you I wasted an hour or two here! Stop writing such good stuff!

I’m also a big fan of Court, Vic and don’t forget Grizzly! I will check out Wendy’s site also.

We are neighbors here in Florida,(Cape Coral) and I look forward to conversing with you.
