Basic Essentials For Business Success

When Don proposed his idea of baby steps that lead to big changes the other day to get other writers on board to talk about their respective experiences on the Internet I jumped at the idea. Why, because I strongly believe his vision and therefore I follow along with it. Now, I could just say why would I want to do this when I’m a flat out writer and really don’t have any spare time on hand.

The reason I did, is because sometimes we have to just make a decision and run with it. Whether it will work or not is to be discovered down the line, but if we don’t try now, we will never know if it could have worked and are left wondering for the rest of our life’s.

This brings me to the first point I’d like to address in regards to basic business essentials…

Make a decision to go for it!

All of us experience life in many different notions and ways. But one question I always hear from my readers is “how do I get started”. This really saddens me, because when people ask this it isn’t for lack of an idea they have, but merely a lack of get go.

Some call this the “paralysis of analysis theory”.

You know what, I totally agree and I tell you why. I did exactly the same. I used to over analyze anything I felt to be a great business idea and as a result it never eventuated into something tangible.

Here in Australia, we have a state called the “Northern Territory”. Their slogan to lure tourists into their part of the world is “if you never never go, you will never never know”.

This to me sums up pretty much why most people are still stuck in a job they hate, a relationship they can’t bear or in a country their are sick of living in.

But hey, how on earth do you expect changes in your life if you don’t take a step forward in the right direction?

Keep the focus

This is perhaps the hardest part of the whole deal of doing business for oneself. Focus is what keeps you up at night when everyone else is already long in bed. Focus is also the decision you make when your friends invite you to the latest movie.

Who said it was going to be easy?

Focus is everything and anything in your business and the one thing that will keep you going forward – no matter what!

When you are ready to start, make sure you have laser sharp focus for what you are trying to achieve and don’t let anybody steal it from you!

Drive, determination, vision, a dream

All these attributes will feed you with the right mind food to help you stay focused on your business journey.

No matter how much hardship you have experienced in life, there are always people who are worse off than you and still manage to achieve their dreams.

Your pure – raw want (desire) to make your dream happen is enough to actually make it happen! It has to be raw enough. Roar like a lion. Scream it from the top of a mountain. Announce it on the radio.

Can you do that?

You can do this – you know!

It all starts with the one step. It is all you need. Then build on this with all your might and never ever give up on yourself.

I saddens me when I see people fail, only to hide in their little corner never to venture out again. I did! I fought depression for 6 months after I failed in my MLM business which I had diligently built for 2.5 years. I put my heart and soul into that business.

Guess what – I failed.

But I’m a fighter. I came back with a roar. I wasn’t going to let this little failure defeat me of my dreams and visions of success! I bit back and within 7 month I went from a new freelance writer and pro-blogger to a full time income.

I don’t write this to brag to you either. I want to show you that YOU can do this too. But YOU have to WANT it so badly that excitement keeps you from sleeping at night, You have to WANT it so badly that when every one of your friends are having fun at THE party of the year, you are sitting at home plugging away at your business, until… you have reached the dreams and levels you aspire to.

If that sounds like too much hard work and effort, I’m afraid it is. Feel free to join me and learn from my failures to build your own dream business.

    Hi Monika,

A few comments. If people are paralysed it may be because they are fearful. If so it may be worth finding out what the fear is about.

I think the idea that we have to plan everything in advance also contributes to paralysis. I prefer the approach of Start Small Finish Big by Fred de Luca (one of the founders of Subway). This is much less scary and so less paralysing.

If what someone is setting out on is a totally new venture it probably won’t be possible to be very focused to start with. They will need to wander around, see what things are like. The focus comes from finding what I want, what I think I can do, what the field I want to be in is like, all mixed up together.

I think the process is somewhat messy – and it is good to have patience with it.

@ Evan: you raised some great pointers there. It is totally correct what you are saying. Perhaps that might be an idea for another post indeed.

I think that focus also comes from failing, like you said, just in other words. I also think that focus realigns itself as we grow.

We reach one goal and then focus on something else further away. It is part of humanity I guess since we always want more than we have.

    Great comment, thank you. :-)

I’m relatively new to blogging and internet marketing but I know what my truth is and I know what my priorities are.

Yes! I have a white hot burning desire to be successful at my MLM business, but I’m not willing to jeopardize any relationships with my close friends or my family to make it happen.

After all, if lasting success MLM is about relationships, then what’s the point if I’m turning down invites to go out with long established friends in order for me to hammer out one more blog post for my business?

In other words, burning desire and laser focus are essential…but at what price? Nothing is more important to me than my family and friends.

I guess I would START with that.

    Hi Theresa,

I see where you are coming from and my answer would be it depends on YOUR priorities, doesn’t it. Like you I have certain priorities that are worth more than the success of my business.

I think you touched on a great point there actually and am glad you raised this. Too often we tend to forget to smell the roses and this is probably one of our “downfalls” in business if we can name this like that.

Therefore we need to stop every now and then and really set our priorities the right way (whatever that might be for each of us).

    Thanks

    Monika,
I got to thinking about how I had worded my comment later on and I kind of was nervous that it would be taken the wrong way…I didn’t know how to retract or edit…so I had to let it go.

I certainly appreciate the point you made in your reply regarding everyone’s priorities are different! Amen to that! What is important to me is not always gonna be important to another.

But I do know one thing. For me, life is about the journey. It IS about how I take care of myself along the way to my goals. It is about balance along the way (between mania and depression)…I can relate to extremes, believe me! And I’m NOT willing to sacrifice too many days indoors in my PJ’s! Not worth it to me.

You’re story is an inspiration to me and I appreciate you. (you’re a trail blazer!)

@ Theresa: thank you, I also appreciate you since you are commenting on my thoughts and to be name a trail blazer is kind of fun too. :-)

I think I understand where you are coming from. You say you understand extremes. I do too and I fear that I work too hard at times which is very extreme. My biggest priority right now is to find some kind of balance in my life between one and the other as once I’m in the zone, I just keep pushing.

It is a process that is in progress right now and over time I’ll get better at it too. Counteracting my PJ days with sunshine is a must.
