Home based business opportunitiesSometime back in late March I wrote an article about the lure of easy money. I ended the post with an offer to help anyone with a dream and desire to establish a home based business. I heard from a few WAHM’s, a graphic designer, and some others with different ideas and dreams of the kind of home based business they wanted to start. I generally start my interview by asking them to list a few things about themselves and their passions. From that list, we work together to narrow it down to a list of one. The common theme I found in most all of the inquiries, with the possible exception of one or two, was that they all said they were writers and most of them had writing on their list of ways to monetize to make money online.

Why Wanting to Write is so Popular

People by design have an internal desire to be heard, it’s in the their DNA. All of us want to be significant in some way. Wordpress offers a platform to do just that. We have thoughts and ideas and we can plunk them into an article and within minutes we are a published writer. Our writings are now a part of a global community known as the internet.

It is possible that many were never allowed to express themselves freely throughout their lives. Blogs enable people the freedom and the safety net they need; the liberation of their voice. It is a wonderful platform that serves that purpose, but making a career of it is not easy. Still there are many who wish to give it a go and for that I will direct you to Monika who has started a series on freelance writing.

A Better Option to Satisfy Your Need

I did meet one lady who is indeed an accomplished writer. She owns a blog in the medical niche and makes a fair income through Adsense, based on what she shared with me. What she has done is taken her talent for writing and focused her energy on a niche. I frankly would not have thought of the niche she chose, but it’s a money maker. The site requires very little maintenance. My advice to her would be to duplicate her business model, and direct organic traffic to her site. Organic traffic is traffic with a need. She took her talent for writing and directed it towards a need. That is smart.

What the Internet Doesn’t Need

Do you think the internet needs another SEO expert? I don’t. Do you think we all could use another make money online site? Hell No! Should we start another blog about blogging? Are you getting the point? People, friends or foe, these niches are so saturated that your chance of making sales or making money online are nil. For that matter we have enough about writing too!     You know I’m gonna disagree with you don’t you Don :p Well kind of… I started a blog in the MMO niche though I didn’t exactly realise there was a “MMO niche” at the time but its taken off ok despite not knowing a whole lot about anything when I started.

    If somebody really, really wants to do something, I think they should be encouraged. If their motivation is purely money and they pick a niche where there is no money then they’ll figure that out for themselves and learn the hard way but you know what - there are *always* exceptions to the rule, there will always be people who can find a way to make money in a niche that nobody else can.

    Caroline I’m surprised, we disagree? Seriously, the make money online niche is just so overwhelmed with so called “experts” and seemingly they want to attract more “experts” with what they write about. My point is there are more ways to make money online than the specific niche. No problem here with people following their dreams and , but I ask you , is it really their dream? Or perhaps they have been sold down the river by a clever sales pitch. I know of a handful of sites that really make money online in that niche. The rest are really feeding off each other. Blogs, feeding blogs. Again I ask you. How long do you think that can continue? Aren’t they really just trading dollars back and forth? Think about it, you buy this e-book, I buy that e-book and so on and so on, I build my traffic , you build traffic, blah , blah blah. Honestly it wears me out. It is like a game, with few winners IMHO.
    In the online business or the traditional brick and mortar the formula is simple. Find a need and fill that need. We tend to over think that.

    Don I could agree more at least in part. Find a need fill a need. It really is as simple as that. people make it more complicated because the so called experts say it is and sell a solution or another e-book. I have 3 other blogs in other niches not big ones mind you, but then I have obscure interests and they make far more than my make money blogging blog does. And to be honest in my other niches people there are far more willing to trade links, share content, collaborate, hook up in other promotional fashions than in the IM or MMO niche. I personally feel that the MMO niche and IM niche serve their purpose to teach and inform. But it is laughable at ho many people are trying to get page one for make money online when it has virtually no traffic and the search results are skewed by their own queries. Ive been blogging far longer as a side thing than I have been as a blogger for money or business. When I first got the idea that I could biz it up what do you think I searched for how to make money on the internet. Problem being that search is clogged with BS.
    My point really and realization is that it is business and it works like this find what people are interested in buying and sell it to them. it really is that simple.

    Shane and thats my point, I have huge traffic days and the truth is, that traffic does not have need. I would rather receive fewer directed organic visits from people with a need. My “other” sites function with the same results you have described,.

    The make money niche is indeed way over saturated and partially this is due to 97% of people not having the slightest clue as to how to make money in that niche.

    That niche is often compared to being evil as it sells people on dreams and sucks them dry ( a bit like MLM to be honest).

    While I don’t think it is the business model that is the problem, all though what the heck is the business model in the MMO niche anyway, the problem lies with those few at the top who have lost their integrity.

    Since most humans are lazy (yes they really are) they easily sell themselves on the dream of sitting at home making money with the Internet and their computer. The obvious is to do this in the MMO niche since it is in our face everywhere we step online.

    The funny thing is, that the MMO niche is nothing compared to most other niches and that those people who operate away from the MMO niche actually make real money quietly and steadily. Since they don’t blog about it and since they don’t have this “rockstar” cult following, nobody ever knows but maybe their best friends and family.

    Most of the MMO niche is really just the blind leading the blinder.
