The Time Has Come to Fish or Cut Bait

Some of you may be familiar with the phrase Fish or Cut Bait. Here is the south we love these catchy little phrases. For the un-informed it means, either continue in a productive manner or desist entirely. Similar in meaning to ‘put up or shut up’ That time for myself and my home based business is now. Making Sales and Making Money has taken on a new meaning for this internet entrepreneur. Within the next week or so, I am resigning from my job with the U.S Government to pursue a life of full time internet marketing.
Weighing the Risk
For months now I have been consumed with thoughts of making sales with my online business a full time occupation. I have talked with many people, surveyed their input, opinions and balanced all the typical risk factors associated with starting an online business. At the end of the day, obviously there are many. Not the least of which is the uncertainty of a steady income.
I have posted many times about being bitten by the entrepreneurial bug early on in my life. Folks that bite is real and it is authentic. The fact is I don’t like others making decisions for me about my work or my personal life. Being tied down to a job and being tied down to the authority of a boss has come to a close. It is finished.
The Process of Making a Decision
For many of us the process of making a decision is a problem. Your entire life is filled with responsibilities and making decisions is an every day part of that. Understood. However, some decisions carry more weight in the grand scheme of things and this one seemed to take on a priority I had not experienced of late. I came home form work Saturday night, worn out from a long frustrating night at the “office” My mind was in overdrive as I settled into my office chair, and began building websites, but something was different. I seemed to lack focus. Was I tired? Yes, but usually my focus is laser sharp. Something wasn’t quite right. I retired to my king sized Sleep Number bed at 4 AM. For the next 2 hours I tossed and turned my thoughts running from place to place.
Then it hit me. My inner voice began to speak. “Don, its time to fish or cut bait” You have thought about this long enough. I frequently tell people, thinking is good, but thinking is a passive activity.. “Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on one’s ideas, to take a calculated risk - and to act.” You must take action. The decision was made
The Reaction
Have you stepped outside your mind? Are you nuts? Oh really? There were a few more and a few more with much more colorful language. That’s fine. The truth of the matter is if I get too overly concerned with what people think, then I will end up doing what they think I should do. I will become essentially a follower. I refuse and have for most of my life to do that. Everyone has a standard to which they measure their own quality of life. Quality in my life has to be something I have chosen to do according to my own volition. Whatever the reaction I have to follow my heart and follow it I will.
Where Do We Go From Here
At present I build 3 or 4 new sites per day. That will continue for the foreseeable future. Making Sales Making Money will continue to provide information about home based business opportunities. The theme and the tone for the site is not going to change. I will always encourage others to think for themselves and act accordingly to their own thoughts. I will be here to answer questions and post articles that help you achieve your goals and aspirations for your home based business. I work at hard at whatever I do and this venture will be no different.
