Following the Leaders, Reaping the Rewards

It has been six months, give or take a day, since I started this blog. I have learned plenty.
I have made money. I have lost money, but, oh my I have learned. My goal was to establish an online business. I read compulsively, all the how to articles, e-books, and references I could put my hands and eyes on. I learned there are those to be trusted online and those to avoid. I learned there are those who proclaim to be leaders. I also learned the real leaders don’t have to tell people, they just are. If you are like me, you spend a portion of each day searching and reading other blogs. I have found out in the last six months some very important things about blog reading. It can waste time like nothing else, and is it not amazing how many blogs are out there touting this or that product or service? Perhaps, even more amazing, are the numbers of blogs all promoting the same products! I mean who do you listen to? Better yet, who do you ignore? If I have learned one thing in the last six months, it is that there is as much, if not more, garbage out there as there is quality sites and information. I remember in the early days visiting the so called A-Listers blogs and getting out of my chair to check my wallet as I clicked on to another site. Here are few leaders I follow.

Content + Traffic + Pre-Sell = Monetize

Originally I had planned to make this series a 6 part post. I have decided to combine traffic and monetization into one. Why? Because you won’t have one without the other. Your online business, and niche, simply will not function as a business without them working in tandem.

If you were opening a restaurant or retail store of some sort, your first priority would be location, location, location. When you start your online business, for the first time in your business life you will be at least the start, on equal footing with everyone else. The Internet.

A Guide to Becoming an Infopreneur, Part 3

158999641_0b0c004d2b_m.jpgWe have all heard the old adage you don’t get a second chance at a first impression. The look and feel of you site is very comparable. Selecting a theme for you blog with a look and feel your visitors will like is your next challenge. Making a selection that is functional, pleasing to the human eye and makes navigation throughout the site easy cannot be overlooked. Often times we will choose what we like and not what is good for us. Have you ever been faced with that kind of choice?

That First Impression

Blogging Zoom, November Traffic Report and more

It’s that time of the month when all the big blogs like to post about how much money they made in the previous month. Let’s get that out of the way for me right now. I made just under $100.00 this month, down significantly from the $300.00 plus in October, but that’s the truth and I promised early on to tell the truth.

A New Look and a New WordPress Theme

vertigo-red.jpgWhen the technology world gives you lemons you find a way to make lemonade. My recent fiasco to start the week has turned around considerably. For some of you repeat visitors, if I still have any, you will notice a new theme. This sleek clean look comes courtesy of Brian Gardner. I met Brian this morning, online of course, and explored his site and it was love at fist site with this one. He recently released a new series of themes named Revolution that I had a hard time staying away from. In fact , I have decided to use his Revolution themes on a new project I have underway.

18 Things to do when your Site is Down

Imagine waking up to check your blog and it’s gone. Oh I am sure it is not the first time it’s happened, but it was a new chapter in my blogging life. I discovered it and while at first I did not give it much thought as my morning evolved it became clear this wasn’t gong to be one of my favorite days. Having been in the customer service business my entire life I began to experience the New Business Order first hand. That’s when you realize that all that you really are as a customer and consumer, is a contributor. A contributor to someone’s bottom line. Once you have made your contribution, step aside please, we have no interest in you anymore, unless of course you would like to make another contribution.

Use What You Know to Make Money

I answer e-mails and have conversations every day from people who want to start their own home based business. Usually the conversation includes an idea about purchasing a franchise, and MLM opportunity or an internet marketing possibility. All legitimate, all potentially profitable. The question is are they a good fit for the business. The majority of the time the answer is no. Why?

Q: I want to start a business. But I have bad credit, and everything seems so far off and out of reach (financially and time-wise). Also, I have a 17-month-old baby at home, and I would hate to leave her every day. I’m afraid I’ll miss important milestones. I’d desperately love to work from home, but what I’ve read about home based job opportunities suggests I need to invest more money than I can afford at this time. Is there any hope for me in the near future? Or should I just save, save, save, and maybe eventually I’ll have enough money to do something I love?
